He was in family practice for seven years in Man, WV. In he returned to the University of Virginia to specialize in ophthalmology. It was here in Charlottesville that he was in practice for 40 years. He was part of the reason I became a nurse, and am still practicing after 37 years. I remember well when Luke and Betty were married. He was in Marshall sharing a room with two other students so I gave them my private room after they were married. I also remember sharing geneaology of the Combs family in Kentucky with Luke. Luke writing the history of the Combs family for the Lawrence County history book was the culmination of his efforts.
It was with sadness that I read of Dr. His gentle manner, patience, knowledge, and sense of humor were greatly appreciated. He is also survived by his brother, Albert Sheldon Knapp and wife, Jean of Mechanicsville and many nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved and adored.
