Project documents also show two office space areas northwest of Willie Way, a road connecting The Backyard with Texas Each office area will have up to 90, gross square feet of office use. Willie Way is also to become a public road and provide improved connection between The Backyard and Texas There will be two parking garages built close to the office buildings; one garage will be , square feet, the other , square feet.
Employees and visitors with business in The Backyard will be able to use the parking garages in the day during weekdays. At night and during weekends, the garages will be open to visitors to the park.
The envisioned ,square-foot hotel and annex —located in the office area — will have an exhibit hall and meeting space, a spa, pool, business center, and concession and fitness areas. While there are no details, those potential uses range from bakery, retail, bar and restaurant to museum, dance hall and playground. There will be satellite parking spaces and ride-sharing opportunities. Some neighboring property owners had expressed concerns about traffic bleeding onto their properties from activities at The Backyard.
Additionally, there will be trails connecting to the Shops at the Galleria, and a landing pad for a pedestrian bridge across Texas There is no estimated construction schedule, cost or delivery method for the overall Backyard redevelopment. Stantec is the project engineer. Austin architecture firm Dick Clark and Associates is working on landscape designs, including the proposed hilltop garden. Another Austin architect, Studio Steinbomer, is redesigning the amphitheater section. Redevelopment of The Backyard languished for years, mainly due to litigation now closed involving the past development team and the city. Earlier redevelopment plans included residences, data centers and a distributed energy center.

The legacy of The Backyard will live on as the Live Oak Amphitheater, an outdoor music venue with a capacity of 3, A second venue on the new complex, the Glenn, will be a more intimate space for concerts and private events. There will be several bars and restaurants on the property. Bloom, The Backyard's flagship eatery, promises seasonal cuisine supported by an onsite garden and apiary.
Other concepts announced so far include Rise, a coffee shop, and Above, a party venue. As for accommodations, visitors can look forward to staying at a four-star resort, The Nelson. Austinites can take up residence at Ethan's View Condominiums and Townhomes. Amenities include a pool, fitness area, entertainment deck, community garden plots, and easy access to hiking trails that crisscross The Backyard.
There will be six office buildings onsite, totaling , square feet. T wo data centers will be available for secure storage; and the entire development will be powered by the Backyard Microgrid, which will make use of Austin Energy, gas-fired generators, fuel cells, and natural gas.
The first phase of construction, which includes the dining concepts, data centers, and several office buildings, is slated to be complete at the end of The music venues and residences should be complete in early , and the hotel will follow later that year.
