Special zones will still be in effect, including new zones Hospital and Human Services staff as well as existing zones for freight, food trucks, or charter buses. Parking Enforcement Officers are still enforcing all remaining parking restrictions — including no parking zones, peak period parking restrictions for transit and travel lanes, disabled permit parking spaces, commercial and passenger load zones, and temporary no parking areas designated by a-frame signs, including temporary food pick-up zones.
The Seattle Police Department will prioritize enforcement of parking restrictions that protect safety and maintain access for transit, freight, and emergency vehicles. If a person's address is found in one of the high traffic zones, that resident can purchase a decal to be placed on his car that allows parking in areas that are otherwise restricted. Qualifying residents may purchase up to four decals and one visitor tag.
The Seattle Municipal code states that no vehicle can be parked on the street for more than 72 hours at a time. This ordinance is in effect for all citizens of the city. If a vehicle is parked on a public street, the vehicle must be moved every 72 hours no matter how often the vehicle is in use by its owner, according to the Seattle Department of Transportation.
Temporary No Parking zones can be implemented for events that require a street to be cleared of vehicles, such as parades, street cleaning or construction work. That goal, it seems, may not always be met. Seattle Department of Transportation spokeswoman Liz Rankin says street improvements on Northeast 75th Street between 20th Avenue Northeast and 35th Avenue Northeast are on the way as part of a larger, month project.
The larger project covers four miles of Northeast Seattle arterial streets, including Northeast 65th Street. Work is not scheduled to be wrapped up until December Meanwhile, some traffic detours and bus reroutes are likely.
And some neighborhood streets will be restricted to local access.
